Shift Mechanism, Checking 

The starter must not be able to be operated in the following shift lever positions: REVERSE (R), DRIVE (D) and SPORT (S).

For speeds exceeding 5 km/h and shifting into the NEUTRAL (N) position, the shift lock solenoid must not engage to lock the shift lever. Shift lever
can be shifted into driving gear.

For speeds below 5 km/h (almost standstill) and shifting into the NEUTRAL (N) position, the shift lock solenoid must only engage after
approximately 1 second. Shift lever can only be shifted out of NEUTRAL (N) position with the brake pedal operated.

Shift Lever in PARK (P) Position and Ignition Switched On

Brake pedal not depressed:

Shift lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the PARK (P) position, with button depressed shift lever is blocked by shift lever lock solenoid.

Brake pedal depressed:

Shift lever lock solenoid releases shift lever. Selecting a driving mode is possible. Shift lever slowly through from the PARK (P) position to the
SPORT (S) position; while doing this, check whether display of shift lever position in instrument panel insert matches actual shift lever position.

Shift Lever in NEUTRAL (N) Position and Ignition Switched On

Brake pedal not depressed:

Shift lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the NEUTRAL (N) position with button depressed. Shift lever is blocked by shift lever lock solenoid.

Brake pedal depressed:

Shift lever lock solenoid releases shift lever. Selecting a driving mode is possible.

Shift Lever in Tiptronic Position

Move selector lever into Tiptronic gate:

Brightening of the DRIVE (D) position symbol must go out in shift mechanism cover and "+" and "-" symbols must light up.

The shift lever display in the instrument panel insert must change from "P R N D S" to "6 5 4 3 2 1" when shift lever is shifted into the Tiptronic gate.

Ignition and Light Switched On 

The appropriate symbol is being lit up in the shift mechanism cover.

Shift Lever Position Display 

Simultaneous lighting of all segments of the Transmission Range (TR) shift lever display indicates transmission is in emergency running mode.

Shift Lever Emergency Release

Note: Do not remove the shift lever handle.

Unclip the shift lever cover and position aside.

-

Press the brake pedal or engage the parking brake.
