Control Module: Service and Repair

Transmission Control Module (TCM), Replacing

Work procedure

Observe safety precautions.
Observe rules for cleanliness.

First, check control module identification of the previous Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Connect diagnostic tester.

Switch ignition on.

-

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: vehicle information".

-

Select the vehicle information "VID 4 ($4): Calibration Identification".

Control module identification will be displayed, e.g.: 09M927750CJ 0693

-

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

-

Remove left front wheel housing liner.

-

Then open locking mechanism of connector and disconnect connector from control module -arrow-.

-

Remove old control module and install new control module.

-

Connect connector to control module and lock.

Rest of installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Check whether the new control module identification matches the old control module identification.

When harness connectors are disconnected from Transmission Control Module (TCM) or the battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in the control
module are erased. DTC memory content will remain intact however. If the engine is started after this, rough, uneven idle can result. In this case, the
readiness code must be generated again.

If Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- was replaced:

Code the Transmission Control Module (TCM): => VAS5051 Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System; Guided Fault Finding;
Vehicle System Test or VAS5052; Vehicle Self-Diagnosis

Generate readiness code.
