Pull 5-way connector (1) off output stage for ignition coils (2).

Use auxiliary wires from VAG 1594 to connect multimeter between terminals 1 + 2 of the connector which has been pulled off to make voltage
measurement.
-
Operate starter.
Specification: at least 11.5 V
If there is no voltage:
-
Switch ignition off.
-
Check for breaks in wire between 5-way connector terminal 2 and ground (see wiring diagram).
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

Check for breaks in wire between 5-way connector terminal 1 and relay carrier (see wiring diagram).
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms
NOTE: Voltage is supplied to the ignition coils from the Fuel Pump (FP) relay through fuse 29.
Checking activation
-
Disconnect connectors from fuel injectors.

Use auxiliary wires from VAG 1594 to connect diode test lamp VAG 1527 to terminals 2 + 3 of connector.

Switch on starter and test ignition signal from Engine Control Module (ECM).
LED should flicker.
-
Repeat test between terminals 2 + 4 and 2 + 5.
If LED does not flicker:
-
Connect VAG 1598/31 test box to control module wiring harness. Engine Control Module (ECM) is not connected.

Check for breaks in wires between test box and connector (see wiring diagram).
