Remove control arm from shock absorber.
1. Control arm
2. Parking brake cable
3. Shock absorber bolt
A. Parking brake cable retaining clip

Place transmission jack, e.g. VAG 1383A, brakes final drive.

Remove axle beam bolts
-
Lower rear axle using transmission jack
Installing
Install in reverse order.
Note:

After installing the axle beam align it as described from Triage 42-38.

After installing check parking brake cable adjustment and adjust if necessary. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
Tightening torques:
Axle beam to body: 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.) + 90°

Always use new bolts
Shock absorber to control arm: 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.) + 90°

Always use new bolts
Brake caliper to bracket: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)

Always use new bolts
Driveshaft to final drive: 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)

Always use new bolts
(Recut threads in final drive flange with tap to remove old locking compound)
