Wheel alignment, checking
The wheel alignment must be measured using Volkswagen approved wheel alignment equipment.
It is always necessary to check the alignment of all four (4) wheels to ensure the correct driving characteristics of the vehicle.
Note:

It is a good practice to wait until the vehicle has travelled about 1000 to 2000 km (600 to 1200 miles) before checking the wheel alignment in the
event of a customer complaint. The vehicle will have to cover this distance before the suspension has properly settled.

When making adjustments the relevant specifications are to be adhered to as closely as possible.
^
After performing servicing work on the suspension, road test the vehicle before checking the wheel alignment.
Test requirements:
^
Approved wheel alignment equipment properly adjusted and attached to the vehicle.
^
Vehicle at correct unladen weights 1)
1) Unladen weight is the weight of the vehicle ready for the road (fuel tank completely filled, spare wheel, vehicle tools and vehicle jack)
^
Tires inflated to correct pressure
^
Vehicle accurately positioned, suspension bounced and rocked several times
^
Suspension, steering and steering linkage checked for excessive play and damage.
^
Carry out wheel run-out compensation
^
Tread depth difference of tires of one axle of no more than 2 mm (0.08 inch)
^
The sliding plates and turntables must not be touching an end stop when checking the wheel alignment.
Wheel alignment must be checked if:
^
Vehicle is not tracking properly.
^
Vehicle has been involved in an accident.
^
Axle components have been removed.
^
Tire wear on one side.
