Draining and Filling

Gear Oil In Transfer Gearbox, Draining And Filling 

Special tools and equipment

VAG1306 Drip tray

^

VAG1332 Torque wrench

Separate right-hand exhaust pipe from rear exhaust system at double clamp. Push front exhaust pipe in area of Three Way Catalytic Converter 
(TWC) to right. Refer to Exhaust System

Draining gear oil 
-

Place container under transmission.

Remove drain plug (arrow -A-) and drain gear oil.

-

Install new drain plug (arrow -A-).
Always replace drain plug

Filling gear oil 
-

Remove filler plug (arrow -B-) to check gear oil level and top off to lower edge of hole with gear oil.
Gear oil specification.

-

Install new filler plug.

-

Carry out short test drive and then check gear oil in transfer gearbox and top off if necessary.    See: Checking and Topping Off

Note:  Carrying out a short test drive is necessary to ensure that the gear oil has reached the Torsion differential.
