Power Steering Pump: Adjustments

Power steering gear, adjusting 

Two technicians are required to adjust the steering gear. Adjust with the engine off.

Raise vehicle on hoist.

Wheels in straight-ahead position.

First technician: Turn steering wheel back and forth (approx. 30° from center).

Second technician: Carefully turn adjustment nut (arrow) until any knocking noises are no longer be heard inside the vehicle.

Road test vehicle.
Ensure that when negotiating corners the steering self-centers without resistance. Re-adjust if necessary.
