Removal and Installation
Drive axle, removing and installing
Removing
WARNING: The drive axle bolt must be loosened or tightened only with the vehicle standing on its wheels.

Remove bolt for drive axle.
-
Remove wheel.
-
Unbolt drive axle at flange shaft.
1. Hex socket head bolt
-
Pull ABS wheel speed sensor wiring out of retainer on brake caliper -arrow-.
-
Pull ABS wheel speed sensor out of swing arm/wheel bearing housing slightly.

Remove nut -1-, remove bolt and pull both upper control arms off in an upward direction.
CAUTION:
^
The slits in the swing arm/wheel bearing housing must not be widened using a chisel or similar tool!
^ Do not loosen bolts -3- or -4- or the front wheel alignment will be changed.

Move swing arm/wheel bearing housing in direction of arrow away to side.

Remove drive axle.
Installing

Insert drive axle onto transmission drive flange and into swing arm/wheel bearing housing.

Install both upper control arms, tighten nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Note: Press downward on control arms when tightening.

Bolt drive axle to drive flange.
Tightening torque: M8 = 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), M10 = 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).

Push ABS wheel speed sensor into swing arm/wheel bearing housing onto stop and insert harness in retainer on brake caliper.
-
Install wheel.
