Residual Volume, Basic Setting

RESIDUAL VOLUME, BASIC SETTING

The residual volume screw (arrow) must not normally be adjusted.
The manufacturer uses this screw to adjust the residual volume on a flow-test bench.

If the screw has nevertheless been adjusted, the following complaints could occur:

Screw turned in = residual volume too large. 
In this case the engine runs too fast and it is not possible to set the idle speed.

Screw turned out (gap at adjusting lever) = residual volume too small.
This causes driveability complaints such as "flat spot" when pulling away and accelerating from low engine rpm or jerking in all gears.

If such complaints occur, the following basic setting must be performed using the residual volume adjusting screw.

- - Release lock nut on adjusting screw (arrow).

Residual volume too low: (driveability complaints)

Turn adjusting screw in until idle speed increases.

Turn adjusting screw back a half turn from the point where the idle speed increases.

Residual volume too large: (Engine speed too high)

-

Turn adjusting screw out until engine speed no longer decreases.

-

Screw in adjusting screw again until idle speed increases.

-

Turn adjusting screw back a half turn from the point at which the idle speed increased.

-

Lock adjusting screw.
