Passat Wagon L4-1.9L DSL Turbo (AAZ) (1996)

Remove blue wire connector (terminal 61) near starter, from securing clip and separate connector.
Gasoline Engine:
Single connector, in engine compartment, left, near starter.
Diesel Engine:
Double connector, in engine compartment, left, near starter.

Set digital multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119) to mA measuring range.

Connect multimeter leads in series between blue wire connector.

Specification: 200 mA or more.
NOTE: If the reading is considerably lower than 200 mA, check the blue wire from alternator to instrument cluster for excessive resistance and/or
replace the instrument panel printed circuit board.
Weak Battery, Possible Causes

Generator (GEN) belt slipping (replace belt if glazed)

Ground (GND) straps corroded, loose or broken.

Generator (GEN) or Voltage Regulator (VR) malfunctioning

Generator (GEN) Warning Light (K2) bulb failed.

Poor Ground (GND) connection between Generator (GEN), Warning Light (K2) socket and circuit board.
