Special Tools 

Pliers for spring type coolant hose clips tool No. VAG 1921, or equivalent.

Drain coolant. Refer to Cooling System, Service and Repair. See: Service and Repair

Remove radiator coolant hoses.

Pull connectors off thermoswitch and radiator fan.
