NOTE: During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below.
COMPONENT NOTES
Bearing Shells No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 (1)

Shells without oil groove installed in bearing caps.
-
Shells with oil groove installed in block.
-
Do not interchange used bearings.
Main Bearing Cap Bolts (2)
-
Always replace.
-
Tighten only to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.) when checking clearances.
-
Final tighten in two steps as follows:
-
1st step, tighten to: 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
-
2nd step, turn an additional: 90° (1/4 turn).
Main Bearing Caps (3)
-
Bearing cap 1 installed at pulley end.
-
Bearing cap 3 with recesses for thrust washers.
-
Bearing shell retaining lugs of cylinder block and bearing cap must be on the same side.

Shells without oil groove installed in bearing caps.

Shells with oil groove installed in block.
