Remove steering wheel.

Remove securing screws -arrows-.
-
Remove connector to turn signal and windshield wiper switch.

Remove turn signal and windshield wiper switch from the steering column.

Steering lock housing, removing/installling
Removing

Remove ignition switch.
-
Remove clamping washer, spring and contact ring.
-
Remove steering lock housing securing bolts.
-
Remove steering lock housing from column tube and steering column.
Installing

Slide steering lock housing onto steering column.

Drive contact ring, spring and clamping washer onto steering column with tool VW 420 (-1-).
Note: If the steering column is not projecting fully out of the column tube, pull steering column out further by turning on hex nut.

Procedure may differ on vehicles with ignition key removal lock.

Removing steering lock housing

Mark steering lock housing for drilling.
a- 12 mm (0.47 in)
b- 10 mm (0.394 in)

Drill steering lock housing (approx. 3 mm (0.120 in), until the lock cylinder spring is evident (hole depth approx. 3 mm) (0.120 in).

Using opposite end of drill, compress lock spring and remove lock cylinder.
