Engine Control Module (ECM), coding 

NOTE:

-

A 5-character code must always be displayed during the Control Module identification. 

-

The Control Module must be re-coded if the Control Module has been replaced or the appropriate vehicle coding is not displayed. 

Special tools, testers measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

Scan Tool VAG 1551 with cable VAG 1551/3B

 
Work sequence

Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool 

-

Switch ON ignition 

-

Press 0 and 1 buttons to select "Address word" 01 Engine electronics" 

Display will appear as shown 

Rapid data transfer

HELP 

Select function XX 

-

Press 0 and 7 buttons to select "Coding Control Module" 

-

Press Q button to enter input 

Display will appear as shown 

Coding Control Module

Q 

Enter code number XXXX 

(0-32000) 

-

Enter appropriate code number for this vehicle 

-

Display will appear as shown if an illegal code is entered. 

Function is not recognized or cannot

be performed at the moment. 

Control Module identification and coding will appear on display as shown in example
