Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection
With Manufacturer's Scan Tool

Special tools and equipment

V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

-

Speed adjuster V.A.G 1788/10

Test sequence 

-

Connect V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (V.A.G 1552). Start engine and select engine control module with "Address word" 01.

Press keys 0 and 4 for function "Introduction of basic setting" and confirm entry with Q key.

Press keys 0, 4 and 6 for "Display group number 46" and confirm entry with Q key.

Set engine speed with speed adjuster VAG 1788/10 to 1800-2200 rpm.

-

Keep engine at 1800-2200 rpm until display in display zone 4 jumps from "Test OFF" to "Test ON".

-

Maintain engine speed further at 1800-2200 rpm until specification "Cat. B1 OK" appears in display zone 4.

Note:

The duration of the catalyst diagnosis is about 60 seconds.
