Unbolting control unit from hydraulic unit > < Removing and installing control unit and hydraulic unit

Removing
Location:
The control unit is bolted to the hydraulic unit and is located on left in the engine compartment.
  WARNING
Do not bend the brake lines in the area of the hydraulic unit!
–  Note or request radio code on vehicles with coded radio if necessary.
–  Disconnect battery and remove.
–  Remove expansion reservoir for coolant, unplug connector and swing to side.
   
–  Release control unit connector -arrow 1- and pull off -arrow 2-.
–  Draw off as much brake fluid as possible from brake fluid reservoir using a suction bottle.
–  Fit brake pedal depressor from -V.A.G 1869/2-.
–  Depress brake pedal with brake pedal depressor.
–  Connect bleeder bottle hose to front left brake caliper bleed valve and open bleed valve.
–  Close front left bleed valve.
–  Place sufficient lint-free cloths under the control unit and hydraulic unit.
Ensure no brake fluid gets onto contacts.

–  Unscrew both retainers -arrows- for clutch cable (danger of accident).
–  Loosen nuts from bracket for control unit/hydraulic unit.
–  Unbolt brake lines from hydraulic unit, and seal brake lines and threaded holes with plugs from repair kit Part No. 1H0 698 311 A.

–  Open bracket -arrow-, and unclip brake lines.
–  Remove nuts from bracket for control unit/hydraulic unit.
–  Remove ABS unit with bracket.
