Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Drip tray V.A.G 1306
  • ◆ Pliers V.A.G 1921 for spring type clips

Removing

  • ‒ First remove radiator grille and trim.
  • ‒ Remove left-hand headlight:

=> Electrical system; Repair group 94; Servicing headlights.

  • ‒ Drain coolant
  • ‒ Pull coolant hoses off radiator.
  • ‒ Pull connectors off thermoswitch.
  • ‒ Remove catch plate for bonnet lock.
  • ‒ Remove radiator securing bolts and take out radiator to the front.

Vehicles with air conditioner:

  • ‒ Observe additional information and removal work => Page 19-13 .

Installing

Installing is basically in the reverse order but note following:

  • ‒ Filling with coolant => Page 19-9
  • ‒ Electrical connections and routing:

=> Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations

  • ‒ Check headlight adjustment and adjust if necessary:

=> Maintenance

Additional information and removal work on vehicles with air conditioner

Warning!
The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened.

Note:

To prevent damage to condenser also to the refrigerant pipes/hoses, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.

  • ‒ Remove skirt from front bumper.
  • ‒ Remove retaining clamp(s) from refrigerant pipes.
  • ‒ Remove condenser from radiator and pull forward as far as is possible.
  • ‒ Lift radiator out carefully, forwards.
  • ‒ Secure condenser to body so that refrigerant pipes/hoses are not stressed.
