Checking compression → Chapter.
  Note
t  When installing an exchange cylinder head with fitted camshaft, the contact surfaces between the bucket tappets and the cam must be oiled before installing the cylinder head cover.
t  The plastic packing pieces for protecting the open valves must not be removed until immediately before fitting the cylinder head.
t  If the cylinder head is renewed, all the coolant in the system must also be renewed.
   
1 - Toothed belt guard upper part
2 - Toothed belt
q   Check for wear
q   Do not kink
q   Removing, installing and tensioning → Chapter
3 - 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 °) further
q   Renew
4 - Camshaft pulley
q   Note position when installing toothed belt → Chapter.
5 - 10 Nm
q   Insert with locking fluid -D 000 600 A2-.
6 - Rear toothed belt guard
7 - 5 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 °) further
q   Renew
8 - Sealing washer
q   Renew
9 - Sealing cap
q   Renew seal if damaged
10 - Cylinder head cover
11 - Cylinder head cover gasket
q   Renew if damaged
q   Before fitting coat transition points between bearing cap and cylinder head with sealant -D 454 300 A2-.
12 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Renew
q   Engine codes ADX, AEA, AEE, AEX, AKV, ANX, APQ: bolt with knurled head
q   Sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
13 - Cylinder head
q   Check for distortion → Fig.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant
14 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renew
q   Engine codes: ADX, AEA, AEE, AER, AEX, AKV, ALL, ANX, APQ: metal gasket
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant
15 - 10 Nm
16 - Tensioning roller
q   Removing, installing and tensioning → Chapter
17 - 20 Nm
18 - 10 Nm
q   For aluminium block: Renew bolts (coated with a sealant)
19 - Belt pulley
q   When installing note fixing arrangement
q   Note position when installing toothed belt → Chapter.
20 - 20 Nm
21 - Poly V-belt
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
22 - Toothed belt guard lower part

   
Checking cylinder head for distortion
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm
