Disconnecting the battery earth strap (open circuit) provides a safe working environment for repairs to the electrical system. The battery positive wire need only be disconnected for removal of the battery. However, observe the notes on disconnecting the battery in any case.

Disconnecting battery

Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Disconnect battery earth strap on battery negative terminal first.
Note
To disconnect the battery positive wire, first remove the fuse holder on the battery.
Removing fuse holder on battery:

Press locking lugs -arrows- together to open fuse holder and take off cover.

Unscrew securing nut -1- and current conductor plate on positive battery clamp.

Remove securing nuts -2- to disconnect wiring to strip fuses.
–
Disconnect connector -3-.

Release tension on fuse holder spring catch by pressing down with a thumb and lever spring catch locking device off battery using a suitable screwdriver.

Remove fuse holder upwards off battery.

Then release the battery positive terminal clamp securing bolt -arrow-.

Battery terminal clamps must be fitted only by hand without force to prevent damage to battery housing.

Battery terminals must not be greased.

Fit positive cable clamp onto battery positive terminal.
