Dash panel self-diagnosis for vehicles 10.99 ►
General description:
  Note
t  The dash panel insert must not be dismantled.
t  If required the dash panel insert is to be exchanged using normal exchange part procedures. Complete damage report form and return together with dash panel insert. Use original packaging only when returning items.
t  The odometer reading and the service interval display can be adapted to the new dash panel insert → Chapter.
The dash panel insert is connected to the powertrain data bus in vehicles from 10.99 ►.
The data bus is also called the CAN data bus.
Data can be exchanged between the powertrain data bus and the diagnosis wire (K-wire) via the data bus diagnostic interface -J533- in the dash panel insert.
  Note
The data bus diagnostic interface -J533- in the new (replacement) dash panel insert must be re-coded in all cases, even if the correct code number has already been saved → Chapter.
The dash panel insert is controlled via a microprocessor which is equipped with an extensive self-diagnosis functionality.
If faults occur in the sensors and components being monitored, they will be stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.
The self-diagnosis must be initiated at the start of fault finding and the stored information read. The fault information displayed is used in conjunction with a fault table which has information on the possible fault causes for pin-pointed repair measures → Chapter.
