Lift the rear axle in the unloaded position
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Gearbox jack or engine set + gearbox or EQ 7081 -VAG 1383A-
t  Tension belt -T10038-
t  Support -T10149-

  WARNING
t  All chassis component screws using metal rubber bearings must always be tightened with the vehicle unloaded (empty).
t  The metal-rubber bearings torsion is limited. Therefore, axle components with metal/rubber bearings must be placed in the corresponding operating position with the vehicle unloaded (empty) before tightening.
t  Otherwise, the metal-rubber bearings would deform and their useful life consequently be reduced.
This position can be simulated on the lift with the Transmission jack or engine set + transmission or EQ 7081 -VAG 1383A- and the Support -T10149-.

Before starting work, measure the distance -a- from the centre of the wheel to the lower corner of the wheel housing, using a measuring tape.
  Note
t  Measurement must be made with the vehicle unloaded.
t  Write down the value achieved. This will be required for the subsequent tightening screws/nuts.
Before raising the vehicle, fasten it to the lift's wishbones by using the Tension belt -T10038- → Booklet22.1.
  Caution
If the vehicle is incorrectly fastened, there is a risk it may fall off the lift!
–  Turn the wheel hub until the wheel screw holes are positioned on top.
–  Fasten the Support -T10149- to the wheel hub using a wheel screw.
  R40-10110
Any necessary screws and nuts may only be tightened when the distance -a- between the wheel hub and the lower corner of wheel housing is the same as previously measured.
Measurement -a- depends on the specific suspension installed.
Procedure for lifting the front axle with vehicle unloaded, consult → Chapter.
–  Lift the rear axle using the Transmission jack or combined engine/transmission jack or EQ 7081 -VAG 1383A- until reaching measurement -a- .
  WARNING
t  Do not lift or lower the vehicle if the Transmission jack or combined engine/transmission jack or EQ 7081 -VAG 1383A- is under the vehicle.
t  Do not leave the Transmission jack or engine set + transmission or EQ 7081 -VAG 1383A- under the vehicle for longer than necessary.
–  Tighten the fastening nuts and screws.
–  Remove the Transmission jack or engine set + transmission or EQ 7081 -VAG 1383A- from underneath the vehicle.
–  Remove the Support -T10149-.
