Checking camshaft axial clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Universal dial gauge bracket -VW 387-

t	Dial gauge

Checking camshaft axial clearance

Perform measurements with support elements and cylinder head cover removed.

–	Apply thumb pressure to centre camshaft bearing -arrow- and move camshaft back and forth to check axial play.

Wear limit: max. 0.20 mm

Valve dimensions

Note

Valves must not be reworked. Only lapping-in is permitted.
