Part II: Assembly overview - chain drive system
1 - Cylinder head with camshaft housing
q   Sealing surface must not be reworked
q   With integrated camshaft bearings
q   Remove sealant remnants
q   Coat with AMV 188 001 02 before fitting
q   When installing, lower vertically from above so that dowel pins fit into holes in cylinder head
2 - Cylinder block
q   Dismantling and assembling cylinder block → Chapter
q   Dismantling and assembling pistons and conrods → Chapter
3 - Bracket
q   For tensioning element and air conditioner compressor
4 - Chain sprocket
q   For oil pump drive and timing chain
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease
5 - Drive chain
q   Before removing, mark direction of rotation (installation position)
6 - Guide rail
q   For timing chain
7 - 25 Nm
8 - Chain tensioner with tensioning plate
q   For oil pump drive
9 - Tensioning spring
10 - Sump
q   Removing and installing on engines with a liquid gasket → Chapter
q   Clean sealing surface before fitting
q   Install with silicone sealant D 176 600 A1
11 - 13 Nm
12 - 18 Nm
13 - Chain sprocket
q   Lock sprocket using counterhold tool -T10172-
14 - Cover
15 - 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   Renew
16 - Piston
q   For drive chain tensioner
17 - Spring
18 - Chain tensioner
19 - 9 Nm
20 - Control housing
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Install with sealant D 176 501 A1
q   When installing, install two -M6x80- studs in cylinder block and camshaft housing as a guide
q   To guide valve timing housing, secure sump in position with two bolts
21 - Bearing bush
q   Observe tightening procedure → Chapter
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease
22 - Belt pulley
q   Observe tightening procedure → Chapter
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease
q   Secure pulley against turning with counterhold tool -3415-
q   Removing and installing poly V-belt → Chapter
23 - Securing bolt
q   Observe tightening procedure → Chapter
q   Renew
q   Contact surface for securing bolt must be free of oil and grease
q   Oil threads before inserting
q   Secure pulley against turning with counterhold tool -3415-
q   The extra turn angle can be checked using a commercial protractor e.g. Hazet 6690
24 - 10 Nm
25 - 50 Nm
26 - 10 Nm
27 - To intake manifold
28 - 10 Nm
29 - Vacuum valve
30 - O-ring
q   Renew
31 - 10 Nm
32 - Oil separator
33 - Gasket
q   Renew
34 - Tensioning plate
35 - 50 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   Lock chain sprocket using counterhold -T10172-
q   Renew
36 - 50 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   Lock chain sprocket using counterhold -T10172-
q   Renew
37 - Chain sprocket
q   For inlet camshaft
q   Lock with counterhold tool -T10172-
38 - Timing chain
q   Before removing, mark direction of rotation (installation position)
39 - Chain sprocket
q   For exhaust camshaft
q   Lock with counterhold tool -T10172-
40 - Guide pins
q   Specified torque: 18 Nm
41 - Bearing bush
