Vehicles with anti-theft secured engine control unit -J623-
If you wish to replace the engine control unit, connect the → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 and carry out the guided function “Renew control unit”.
–  Switch off ignition.
Removing
   
–  Open wiring guide -1- and lift locking device -2-.
–  Take engine control unit out of retainer.

–  Unscrew shear-head bolt -1- using pliers.
–  Turn engine control unit -2- over and unscrew second shear-head bolt using pliers.

–  Pull retainer -1- and protective housing -2- off engine control unit -3- in -direction of arrow-.
–  Release connector on engine control unit and pull off connector.
Installing
–  Fit connector and lock in position.
–  Push the protective housing over the engine control unit.
–  Install retainer for protective housing using new shear-head bolts.
–  Tighten shear-head bolts evenly until heads shear off.

–  Insert engine control unit into control unit retainer on bulkhead until it engages in catches -1-.
–  Insert wiring into wiring guide -1- and close guide.
–  If engine control unit is renewed, clear learnt values and adapt engine control unit → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051“Guided functions”.
–  Read fault memory, repair faults as necessary and then clear fault memory → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051“Guided fault finding”.
–  The readiness code will have to be created once the fault memory has been deleted.
–  Carry out a road test.
–  Read control unit fault memory again.
