  Note
t  The plastic packing pieces for protecting the open valves must not be removed until immediately before fitting cylinder head.
t  If the cylinder head is replaced, all the coolant in the system must also be renewed.
   
1 - Cylinder head
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant
2 - Washer
q   For cylinder head bolt
3 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Observe sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
q   Before installing, place washers in cylinder head → Item
4 - Oil pressure switch -F1-, 22 Nm
q   Identification: green
q   0.5 bar.
q   If seal is leaking, nip open and renew.
q   Checking → Chapter
5 - 20 Nm
6 - Lifting eye
7 - Glow pin plug, 18 Nm
8 - Gasket
q   Renew.
9 - Vacuum pump
10 - 10 Nm
11 - Clip
12 - G 62
q   Coolant temperature sender
13 - Seal
q   Renew.
14 - 10 Nm
15 - Coolant hose connection
16 - Seal
q   Renew.
17 - 25 Nm
18 - Lifting eye
19 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renew.
q   Note marking → Fig..
q   After renewing, renew entire coolant
20 - Hall sender -G40-
q   For camshaft position
q   To remove and install, toothed belt must be removed from camshaft pulleys and idler roller must be released.
21 - 10 Nm

   
Checking cylinder head for distortion
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Straightedge 500 mm -VAS 6075-
t  Feeler gauges
Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm.
  Note
Reworking diesel cylinder heads is not permissible.

Cylinder head gasket identification
1 - Part number
2 - Holes
3 - Ignore
  Note
t  Different thicknesses of cylinder head gasket are fitted depending on the piston projection. When renewing gasket, install new gasket with same identification.
t  Piston projection at TDC must be determined when installing new pistons or a short engine → Chapter.
