Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Spring-type clip pliers -VAS 5024A-
t  Torque wrench (5…50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-

   
t  Water pump wrench -V.A.G 1590-

t  Counterhold -T10172- with adapter -T10172/7-

Modifying water pump wrench -V.A.G 1590-
–  Due to modification to securing bolts for coolant pump pulley, the 3 rounded corners must be filed out to minimum a = 1 mm.
  Note
t  The integrated coolant pump seal must not be separated from the coolant pump.
t  Damaged or leaking coolant pumps must be replaced complete with seal.
Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Hold belt pulley with water pump wrench -V.A.G 1590- or counterhold -T10172-.

Counterhold with counterhold -T10172-
–  Unscrew bolts and remove V-belt pulley → Anchor.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove coolant pump -1-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
–  Check coolant pump seal.
  Note
If the seal is damaged or is leaking, the coolant pump must be renewed in its entirety.
–  Insert coolant pump into cylinder block and tighten.
–  Locate and tighten belt pulley, counterholding at same time.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Replenish coolant → Chapter.
