Fuel delivery unit, fuel gauge sender > < Emptying fuel tank when it is less than 3/4 full (CAYA, CAYB, CAYC)

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Union nut tool -3217-
  W00-0291
t  Removal wedge -3409-
–  Remove bench seat → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72.

–  Lift cover of fuel delivery unit.
–  Unclip cover -1- for flange at retaining tabs -arrows-, using removal wedge -3409-.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
  WARNING
Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid possible injury and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  First check that the connector -arrow- is fitted securely by pulling the connector without pressing the catch. The connector can cause a fault if it has not been fitted correctly.
–  First press down connector -arrow-.
–  Then pull connector catch -arrow- upwards and disconnect upwards at the same time.

Press buttons on hose couplings to do this.
  Note
Press in securing ring to release fuel lines.

–  Pull fuel supply line -4-, fuel return line -2- and fuel line -3- off flange. Disconnect push-on connector → Chapter. To remove line -3-, release and replace hose clip → ETKA (Electronic parts catalogue).

–  Unscrew union nut with union nut tool -3217-.
–  Lift sender flange.
–  Insert extraction hose of fuel extractor -VAS 5190- as deeply as possible into fuel tank and extract fuel.
If fuel tank needed only to be emptied, reinstall sender flange.
