Removing and installing rear axle > < Rear axle in unladen position

  Note
The axle beam and stub axles must not be straightened or welded.
1 - Axle beam
q   Keep contact surface and tapped holes for stub axle free from paint and dirt.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
2 - Plate
q   Check spring plate for damage.
3 - Coil spring
q   Observe colour coding
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA”.
q   Note different running gear versions → Chapter
q   Surface of coil must not be damaged.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
4 - Spring seat
5 - Bolt
q   30 Nm and turn 90° further.
q   Always renew after removing.
6 - Shock absorber
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA”.
7 - Bolt
q   40 Nm and turn 90° further.
q   Tighten in unladen state → Chapter.
q   Always renew after removing.
8 - Nut
q   Self-locking.
q   Always renew after removing.
9 - Bolt
q   8 Nm
10 - ABS speed sensor
q   Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of hole and coat with lubricating paste -G 000 650-.
11 - Stone deflector
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA”.
12 - Stub axle
q   Straightening operations are not permitted!
q   Recutting the thread is not permitted!
13 - Brake drum
14 - Bolt
q   4 Nm
15 - Dust cap
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Pressing off and driving in → Chapter
A proper seal can be achieved only by installing a new grease cap.
This is essential for optimum function and service life of wheel bearing.
16 - Twelve-point nut
q   Self-locking.
q   70 Nm + 30° further.
q   Always renew after removing.
17 - Wheel hub with wheel bearing
q   The ABS sensor ring is installed in the wheel hub
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
The wheel bearing and wheel hub are assembled in one housing.
The wheel hub with wheel bearing unit is maintenance and adjustment-free. Adjustments and repairs are not possible!
18 - Bolt
q   30 Nm and turn 90° further.
q   Always renew after removing.
q   With dished spring.
19 - Brake backplate with brake shoes
q   Repairing → Brake systems; Rep. Gr.46.
20 - Bolt
q   45 Nm and turn 90° further.
q   Insert from outside.
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Tighten in unladen state → Chapter.
21 - Bonded rubber bush
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
22 - Nut
q   Self-locking.
q   Always renew after removing.
