Brake Caliper: Service and Repair

Disc Pads, Replace
1.
Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheels.
2.
Loosen attaching springs at top and bottom of brake pads, then remove upper and lower guide pins, Fig. 5.
3.
Loosen caliper and wire it to the frame.
4.
Remove brake pads from carrier.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque guide pins to 29 ft. lbs.
Caliper, Replace
1.
Remove retaining springs and guide pins.
2.
Loosen caliper, then disconnect brake line and remove caliper from vehicle.
3.
Reverse procedure to install and bleed brake system.
Caliper Overhaul
1.
Remove caliper as outlined previously.
2.
Pry piston dust cap from piston assembly, Fig. 5.
3.
Apply low pressure compressed air to fluid port and blow piston out of cylinder bore.
4.
Using a plastic rod, pry piston seal out of caliper bore.
