For 1984, the door vent window glass is secured in the vent window frame with bolt-on hardware..

Installing the new vent window in a 1983 or earlier vehicle requires a modification to the old vent window frame.

Updated mounting brackets are available and can be installed in place of the original brackets.

Part No. of new brackets: 171 837 617A/618A

Installation procedure

-

remove door trim panel and protective foil

-

drill out rivet at bottom of vent frame

-

remove bolts and take door window glass from regulator

-

remove door glass channel seal from vent window frame

-

remove fastening screw at top of vent window frame

-

remove vent window assembly from vehicle

-

drill out rivet at upper pivot point

-

loosen lower pivot tension screw and remove vent glass from frame

-

remove weatherseal from vent frame

-

drill out rivets in pivot bracket on frame and remove bracket

-

file bracket mounting surface smooth and clean

-

fasten new pivot bracket to frame with 2 steel pop rivets

rivet size: 1/8" x 1/4"

-

reinstall vent frame weatherseal

-

position new vent glass in frame and install upper pivot rivet, Part No. 171 837 647B

-

adjust vent window tension screw

-

reinstall vent window assembly, frame fastening screw and lower mounting rivet

-

reinstall door glass channel seal and reattach door glass to regulator

-

reinstall door protective foil and trim panel
