Only the pin type radiator will be supplied as a replacement part after earlier-type stocks have been depleted.
To install the pin type radiator in vehicles with the oldstyle front apron/crossmember, proceed as follows:
Parts required
Installation kit, Part No. 171 198 121
Note
Adjustable cardboard air deflectors, Part No. 161 121 283C and 284C, may be used to replace production air deflectors. The perforated front portion is
required only for Jetta and can be removed for use on Rabbit/Scirocco. These parts should be installed prior to fitting of new radiator in vehicle.
CAUTION Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Department for latest parts information.
Radiator, installing
-
temporarily place new radiator into vehicle with radiator hoses connected and radiator properly positioned
-
mark location of the lower mounting pin at the inlet/outlet (right) side of the radiator onto the lower crossmember. Remove radiator from vehicle.

place one cone-shaped disc (supplied in installation kit 171 198 121) over the marked point and position so that edge of disc hole is 4.0 mm from
rear edge of crossmember... Center punch through center of disc hole to mark location.

measure distance between mounting pins from center to center on new radiator. Using this measurement, locate and mark position for second
mounting disc.

drill 11.5 mm holes in lower crossmember and press in mounting discs

mount fan and shroud onto radiator using hex head tap screws, B 6.3 x 13 mm (supplied in installation kit)
Note If vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, air deflector mounting bosses on front of radiator should be cut off so radiator can be positioned
properly against condensor.

place rubber bushings (supplied in installation kit) onto radiator mounting pins and mount radiator in
-
vehicle
-
insert upper brackets into radiator, locate, center punch and drill 6.5 mm holes in upper crossmember
-
secure upper brackets using supplied hex head bolts, washers and hex nuts
