release parking brake handle and check that levers on calipers return to stop (arrow)

-

loosen cable adjustment nuts until tension is relieved on both cables

-

operate parking brake handle three times to stretch/seat cables

-

eliminate play from parking brake handle by tightening cable adjustment nuts by hand

-

tighten cable adjustment nuts further until following conditions are met:

hand lever in first position (one click) = moderate wheel drag (equal on both rear wheels)

^

hand lever in second position (two clicks) = high rotational effort on rear wheels when turned by hand (almost locked)

^

hand lever in third position (three clicks) = rear wheels locked

-

release parking brake handle (wheels must spin freely)

-

check that apply lever gap (distance between lever and stop on caliper) does not exceed 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)

Note

Use a wire feeler gauge to check apply lever gap.

if gap exceeds 1.0 mm (0.039 in.) loosen cable adjustment nut in 1/2 turn increments until gap is within specification
