Re-install drive gear for camshaft. Refer to Input gear for camshaft, removing and installing. See: Input Gear For Camshaft, Removing and
Installing

Adjust valve timing. Refer to Valve timing, adjusting. 

-

Install acoustic cover and cylinder head cover of applicable cylinder.

-

Install engine and transmission.

Note:

After installing new hydraulic valve lifters, do not start the engine for about 30 minutes. The hydraulic valve lifters have to settle (otherwise valves
will strike the pistons).

Work sequence described and components depicted here apply to cylinder bank 1. The difference for cylinder bank 2 is minimal and is not
described separately for this reason.

Removing 
-

Set crankshaft to TDC Cylinder. Refer to Valve timing, checking valve timing.

Remove acoustic cover and cylinder head cover of applicable cylinder head.

Remove Fuel Pump (FP). Refer to Tandem pump and Fuel Pump (FP), removing and installing. 

-

Remove camshaft position sensor (only for camshaft gear of cylinder bank 1).

-

Remove outer bearing cap - A -, place clamping device T10199 on camshaft gear and tighten its bolt to 40 Nm.

-

Loosen mounting bolt - B - for camshaft gear using socket insert T10198 and unscrew together with tandem pump drive.

-

Remove Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G40- - C -.

-

Unscrew compensating piston - B - for full-floating axle of compensation linkage.

-

Unscrew pull-off head for pump-injector unit from puller T10055.
