Diagnostic Procedures

Engine Control Module, Replacing

Check control module identification of the previous Engine Control  Module (ECM) as follows:

-

Connect diagnostic tester.

-

Switch ignition on.

-

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: vehicle  information".

-

Select the vehicle information "Test-ID 04: Calibration Identification ".

Control module identification will be indicated, e.g.:

8D0907551AB 0001

-

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

-

Remove windshield wiper motor on right side.  

-

Disengage connector from control module and then disconnect it. 

-

Remove old control module and insert new one.

-

Check whether the new control module identification matches the  old control module identification.

‹› To achieve optimal anti-theft protection for the vehicle, an anti-theft  immobilizer is installed. The anti-theft immobilizer is a system for enabling 

and locking the Engine Control Module (ECM).

‹› So that this system cannot be circumvented, it is necessary to perform  adaptation of the anti-theft immobilizer using the Vehicle Diagnostic  and

Information System (VAS5052) in the On Board Diagnostic  (OBD) function.

‹› The great availability of equipment options makes it necessary to adapt  the Engine Control Module (ECM) to the vehicle (e.g. throttle valve

control  module or cruise control system). This "writing" function is  not possible with the generic scan tool.

Functions and components, adapting:

Generate readiness code.

Final Procedures

After the repair work, the following work steps must be performed  in the following sequence:

1. Check the DTC memory.  Refer to --> [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and

Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Diagnostic Modes 01 - 09. 

2. If necessary, erase the DTC memory.  Refer to --> [ Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory ] See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and

Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Diagnostic Modes 01 - 09.

3. If the DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code. Refer to --> [ Readiness Code ] See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and

Inspection/Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.
