Thermostat: Service and Repair

Coolant Pump and Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Drip tray (V.A.G 1306)

‹› Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

-

Drain coolant --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures.

-

Remove upper coolant hose at coolant thermostat housing.

-

Remove coolant fan with mount --> [ Coolant Fan with Mount ] See: Radiator Cooling Fan/Service and Repair/Coolant Fan with Mount.

-

Remove ribbed belt --> [ Ribbed Belt ] See: Engine/Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair/Ribbed Belt

-

Remove toothed belt --> [ Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning ] See: Engine/Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and
Repair/Removal and Replacement/Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning

If coolant thermostat must be replaced:

-

Remove bolts of coolant thermostat housing - arrows -. 

-

First, remove seal and then coolant thermostat.

Installing

-

Install coolant thermostat with breather valve - arrow - facing upward.
