Technical Background
A/C compressor inoperative, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 00445 is stored in DTC memory. The Touareg equipped with a 4.2L V8 engine has a
Refrigerant Temperature Sensor -G454- which calculates the refrigerant
level based on the temperature and pressure of the HVAC system. This sensor may be adversely affected by sudden temperature changes such as moving
from a cool garage to a hot outside environment or from a hot
outside environment to a relatively cool environment such as a car wash.
Note:
The condition as described does not compromise visibility.

Service
Switch refrigerant level detection OFF by recoding the system from 00020 to 21020 or 00030 to 21030 using the table and procedure shown.
Procedure

Connect VAS 5051/VAS 5052 Diagnostic Tester.
^
Select operating mode "Self Diagnosis".
^
Input address word "08 - AC/Heating electronics".
^
Select function "007 - Coding (Service 1A)".
^
Enter code number "21020" or "21030" (depending upon system) on keypad.
^
Select "Q" to confirm.
