Camshaft adjustor with timing chain for camshaft drive, installing. Refer to --> [ Camshaft Adjuster with Camshaft Drive Timing Chain, Installing

Clean sealing surface on cover piece as well as on cylinder head. 

-

If seals in timing chain cover are to be replaced. Refer to --> [ Camshaft Adjuster Valve Seal, Installing ] See: Seals and Gaskets/Variable Valve
Timing Actuator Seal/Service and Repair.

Coat sealing surface of cover piece with sealant (D 176 501 A1) and install immediately.

‹› Sealant (D 176 501 A1) hardens quickly. 

-

First install all bolts - arrows - and tighten lightly. 

‹› Bolts - A - are not on vehicles with mechanical vacuum pump.

-

Then tighten bolts to 8 Nm.

-

Install the chain tensioner for the camshaft timing chain and tighten to 40 Nm.

Install vacuum pump, if present. Refer to --> [ Mechanical Vacuum Pump ] See: Brakes and Traction Control/Power Brake Assist/Vacuum
Pump/Service and Repair/Mechanical Vacuum Pump.

Install cylinder head cover. Refer to --> [ Cylinder Head Cover ] See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Valve Cover/Service and Repair.

Install intake manifold. Refer to --> [ Intake Manifold ] See: Intake Manifold/Service and Repair/Intake Manifold.

Reset lock carrier service position. See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier
