Compression Check: Testing and Inspection

Compression, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Spark plug removal tool (3122 B)

‹› Puller (T10095 A)

‹› Assembly tool (T10118)

‹› Torque wrench (VAG 1331)

‹› Compression tester (VAG 1763)

Test Conditions

‹› Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C

‹› The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.

‹› All electrical components such as, for example, lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.

‹› If vehicle is equipped with an Air Conditioning (A/C), it must be switched off.

‹› Selector lever must be in the "P" or "N" position. 

Test Sequence

Remove fuel pump fastener from fuse holder. 

Voltage supply to fuel pump activation is interrupted when fuse is removed.

Place assembly tool (T10118) on locking button - arrow - and carefully pull down harness connector.

Slide on puller for ignition coil (T10095 A) from straight connector side in direction of arrow and pull out ignition coil with power output stage.
