Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant Pump

Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench (VAG 1331)

‹› Drip tray (VAG 1306) or drip tray  for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Removing

-

Remove noise insulation..

-

Drain cooling system. Refer to --> [ Draining and Filling ] See: Cooling System/Service and Repair/Procedures.

Remove ribbed belt. Refer to --> [ Ribbed Belt ] See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair/Ribbed Belt.

‹› To remove the coolant pump, the pulley need not be removed.

-

Remove coolant pump bolts through holes in belt pulley -  arrows - and remove coolant pump.

If coolant pump must be replaced:

-

Remove coolant pump belt pulley. To do so, counter hold belt pulley  using a drift (standard).

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse of removal, noting the following: 

-

Check sprayed-on coolant pump seal. If seal is damaged, coolant  pump must be replaced.

Install coolant pump.

-

Tighten bolts for coolant pump. Tightening specification: 8 Nm

-

Install belt pulley for coolant pump. Tightening specification:  20 Nm

-

Install ribbed belt. Refer to --> [ Ribbed Belt ] See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair/Ribbed Belt.

Fill cooling system. Refer to --> [ Draining and Filling ] See: Cooling System/Service and Repair/Procedures.
