Thermostatic Air Cleaner: Description and Operation

 This system, found on some fuel injected engines, uses a flap in the air cleaner intake to direct either warm air from around the right cylinder bank, or
cooler air from the atmosphere into the air cleaner. When the engine is cold, air is drawn from the cylinder area to aid driveability and increase warm up
speed. As the engine warms up, the flap closes off the warm air duct, allowing the engine to draw fresh air. In addition, all models include a provision for
the engine to draw fresh air during full throttle operation, even when the engine is cold.
