Inoperative Engine Control Modules (ECM) due to improper battery charging or starting procedures.
Service

Always follow battery charging procedures as outlined in the applicable Repair Manual for the respective model.
To avoid damage to the ECM, the following additional precautions must also be taken:

Ignition must be switched off.

Do not start engine while charging battery.
^
Do not use battery chargers or boosters that exceed 16 volts.
^
Do not disconnect ECM with the ignition switched on.
^
Ensure that ECM connectors are secure.
CAUTION
Follow the above instructions to avoid damage to the ECM.
