Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair

Teves Master Cylinder

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Locate recesses in instrument panel cover, near windshield, and lift cover up at recesses.  Disengage rear catches and remove cover.

3.

Remove protective plastic cover from instrument panel for better access.

4.

Disconnect wiring harness plugs from rear of instrument panel switches.

5.

Disconnect speedometer cable.

6.

Disconnect instrument panel wiring multi-plug connector.

7.

Remove screws securing instrument panel to facia and remove panel.

8.

Place shop towels under master cylinder to catch spillage, siphon brake fluid from reservoir, and disconnect brake lines from master cylinder.  Fit
protective caps to lines and cylinder.  

9.

Note positions of wiring to brake light switches and disconnect electrical connectors.

10.

Remove clutch master cylinder supply hose, where fitted, from side of brake master cylinder reservoir.  Fit protective plugs to line and reservoir.

11.

Remove two nuts securing master cylinder to brake servo and remove cylinder.

12.

Reverse steps to refit.  Be sure to bleed brake system.   If supply hose to clutch master cylinder was removed, also bleed clutch system.
