Camshaft Oil Seal: Service and Repair

Camshaft Oil Seal, Removing/Installing 

Removing 
- remove drive (timing) belt, See: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair

- loosen camshaft gear bolt 1/2 turn. Loosen gear from camshaft by tapping with rubber hammer
Observe the following when using oil seal extractor:
- unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor 2085 two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of outer part and lock into position with knurled screw.
- to guide extractor, screw sprocket bolt in up to 15 mm

- lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor; set in position and screw it as far as possible into oil seal by pushing firmly
- loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against camshaft until oil seal is pulled out
-  clamp extractor in vise and remove oil seal with pliers

Installing 
- lightly lubricate sealing lip and outer rim of oil seal and press in flush using tool 10.203
