Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Testing and Inspection
Checking Idle Stabilizer
1st Check, Function
Note: Idle stabilizer triggering can vary depending upon specific vehicle wiring; however, in all cases the following functional check applies.

Start engine and let idle
Idle stabilizer valve 1 must vibrate and hum
If OK, go ahead with 2nd check
If NOT, remove connector from valve 1 and check resistance of valve with multimeter US 1119
Specified value: display (continuity)
If specified value NOT obtained

Replace valve
If specified value IS obtained

Re-connect connector to valve and check electrical connections on control unit relay adapter (in front of right tail light) according to wiring
diagram
If electrical connections OK
-
Replace idle stabilizer control unit
2nd Check, Regulator
Requirements
Engine oil temperature min. 80°C
Electrical consumers turned OFF
No leaks in intake air system
Ignition timing OK
Idle rpm OK
CO% content OK
Procedure:

Remove crankcase breather hose and close tightly
-
Connect multimeter US 1119 with adapter VW 1315A/2 to idle stabilizer valve 1
-
Let engine idle
specified value: approximately 430 - 20 mA (fluctuating)
