Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle.

2.

Using a suitable tool, pry off the grease cap, Fig. 1.

3.

Remove and discard wheel bearing adjustment nut.

4.

Install new nut and snug with fingers.

5.

While spinning wheel, firmly tighten the adjustment nut.

6.

Back nut off slowly while trying to move thrust washer with a screwdriver and finger pressure (do not pry or twist screwdriver). When thrust
washer moves freely bearing is correctly adjusted.

7.

Using a blunt chisel or other suitable tool, peen nut onto shoulder of steering knuckle.

8.

Reinstall grease cap and lower vehicle to ground.
