NOTE:

If necessary, adjust horizontal position of tailgate by adjusting hinge position:

-

detach headliner. Remove one hinge bolt; loosen other two.

-

position tailgate; tighten bolts.

Loosely install guide bracket (sliding fit)

Close tailgate to align bracket. Carefully open tailgate and tighten bolts.

Check:

-

that safety catch functions (same as side doors)

-

that tailgate can be locked with key (check central locking function as applicable).

tailgate trim

-

cover

-

plastic handle

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA.

From the beginning of December 1985, a new type tailgate lock has been used in production for wagons to counteract rattling. This lock improves the
positioning and security of the tailgate. At the same time, the two guide pieces on the tailgate sides are no longer used because a new striker plate is used
to guide the tailgate into position.

The new lock incorporates a secondary safety catch, child safety latch and safety bracket to help minimize damage in a rear end collision.

Only the new lock will be stocked by Volvo Parts. The new lock can be installed in earlier vehicles by following the instructions below.
