THIS SERVICE MANAGER BULLETIN IS APPLICABLE TO BOTH THE U.S. AND CANADA
The following change in warranty policy, covering brake discs, will become effective with repair orders dated after January 31, 1986.
This change in policy is being implemented based on Volvo's determination as to proper repair procedures and customer satisfaction.
1.
Brake discs with the following conditions must be replaced not machined.
A.
Pedal vibration caused by variation in thickness of the brake disc. * NOTE: Check wishbone/control arm bushing as possible cause;
Service Bulletins P20: 77-102, 61-5 and P70: 61-102 (S.S. By 611).
B.
Pitted holes

Machining of brake discs for brake noise is not acceptable under warranty. This repair has not been proven to be a remedy for this condition.
Please refer to Service Bulletin 51-106 (S.S. By 517)for instructions concerning brake noise.
Brake discs will be considered an automatic retum item and, therefore, must be returned to the Volvo Parts Testing Department.
Machining of brake discs after the new car warranty period has expired may be considered as an alternative to replacement by the owner to minimize
repair cost.
It should be noted to the owner that machined discs' life expectancy is somewhat reduced depending on the degree of machining. (NOTE: Minimum
thickness requirements are stamped on the disc.)
