Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection
Fuel gauge, fault tracing
^ Check if temperature gauge is also indicating incorrectly.

If both gauges are incorrect, voltage stabilizer is probably faulty.

If temperature gauge is correct, check fuel gauge using test resistor.
Check fuel gauge using 68 ohm resistor (PIN 9995824-1).
^ Disconnect battery ground lead.
^ Disconnect lead at connector.
^ Connect test resistor between ground and disconnected lead.
^ Reconnect battery ground lead and switch on ignition.

If instrument is intact, needle should indicate three-quarters of full-scale deflection, as illustrated. (Tolerance: ± width of needle.)

If reading is correct, transmitter is faulty.

If reading is incorrect, instrument is faulty. Replace instrument. See: Instrument Cluster / Carrier/Service and Repair

If instrument shows no reading, check wiring.
^ Use ohmmeter to check for wiring open-circuit.

If wiring is intact, replace instrument. See: Instrument Cluster / Carrier/Service and Repair
