Control Arm Bushing: Service and Repair

1.
Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheel.
2.
Disconnect stabilizer link and ball joint from control arm, Fig. 1.
3.
Remove rear bushing bracket to side member attaching bolts.
4.
Remove front retaining bolt, then the control arm together with rear bushing bracket. Separate control arm from bracket.
5.
Using tools 5085 and 5091 positioned in a vise, press out control arm bushing. Press in new bushing using tools 5084 and 5085.
6.
Using tools 5082, 5083 and 1801, press bushing from rear bracket. Press in new bushing using tools 5081, 5082 and 1801.
7.
Connect rear bushing bracket to control arm, then install washer and retaining nut. Tighten nut sufficiently, while still allowing rotation of washer.
8.
Install control arm and front retaining bolt. Do not tighten nut at this time.
9.
Guide stabilizer link into position, then connect ball joint to control arm and torque attaching nuts to 85 ft. lbs.
10.
Attach rear bushing bracket to side member, then install attaching bolts and torque to 30 ft. lbs.
11.
Tighten stabilizer link at control arm, lower vehicle, then bounce vehicle several times to allow control arm to set in position.
12.
Torque control arm to rear bushing bracket attaching nut to 40 ft. lbs. and control arm front retaining bolt to 55 ft. lbs.
