Temperature Gauge: Testing and Inspection

Temperature gauge, fault tracing 

^  Check if fuel gauge is also indicating incorrectly.

- 

If both gauges are incorrect, voltage stabilizer is probably faulty.

- 

If fuel gauge is correct, check temperature gauge using test resistor.

Check temperature gauge using 68 ohm resistor (P/N 999 5824-1).
^  Disconnect battery ground lead.
^  Disconnect sensor lead.
^  Connect test resistor across connector terminals.
^  Reconnect battery ground lead and switch on ignition.

- 

If instrument is intact, needle should indicate 3/4 full, as illustrated. (Tolerance: ± width of needle.)

- 

If reading is correct, sensor is faulty.

- 

If reading is incorrect, instrument is faulty. Replace instrument.   See: Instrument Cluster / Carrier/Service and Repair

- 

If instrument shows no reading, check wiring. 

^  Use ohmmeter to check for wiring open-circuit.

- 

If wiring is intact, replace instrument.   See: Instrument Cluster / Carrier/Service and Repair
